ABOUT ME

HELLO & THANK YOU FOR VISITING MY PSORIASIS BLOG.
PSORIASIS ISN'T CONTAGIOUS BUT AWARENESS IS!

Rather than write more big chunks of writing which is my speciality I thought I'd just write a few bullet points about myself should you be interested :)

*My name is Laura, I'm 22 years old & live in Manchester where outside of hospital I have never ever met anyone else with psoriasis.

*When I was 18 I went to university & noticed that I was getting very itchy red rashes on my legs. I went to the doctors & was told it was scabies. I went back to the doctors after the cream they gave me didn't work & was told it was bad eczema. I went to the doctors again after it had spread over my whole body & now told it was psoriasis. I wasn't actually given/told any information about it, just prescribed dovobet, a steroid cream.

*My condition got worse & worse. I became depressed & struggled to deal with how uncomfortable & painful it was as well as the appearance of it. I went back to my doctor & was referred to a hospital to see a specialist dermatologist & given a course of oral steroids whilst waiting for the referral.

*After waiting months for an appointment (I had to pay to see someone in the end it was taking so long) I was told I would then have to wait another month for UVB light treatment which I had for my body and the PUVA for my hands and palm & feet and soles. I remained clear of psoriasis for 3 months & was discharged.

*After my psoriasis returned I had to go through the incredibly frustrating referral process again. This time I was taken in as an impatient spending a month in hospital and going home at weekends. In hospital I started ciclosporin and had dithronal & coal tar treatments as well as things like cocois scalp treatments & steroids. I remained clear of psoriasis for 2 months & was discharged.

*I went to see my dermatology nurse for a follow up appointment and was then prescribed methotrexate as I had reached the maximum dose of ciclosporin. I found no improvement in my condition with methotrexate & after reaching the maximum dose was given humira to try. However I found out I was pregnant so immediately stopped treatment.

*During my pregnancy my psoriasis completely cleared, I had nine months of clear skin & a new lease of life & I was hoping that was the end of my battle with psoriasis...boy was I wrong. My psoriasis returned with a vengeance after my son was born in February 2015. Dealing with a newborn baby + dealing with psoriasis= not a single bit of fun and I am still waiting for my new referral.

*In the mean time I have decided to be more proactive and create a blog to document my journey and hopefully meet some lovely people along the way.

*When I'm not looking after my baby or my psoriasis I enjoy watching films, reading, cooking...anything related to eating really, learning knew things, visiting new places, and mainly drinking cocktails & wine.
